Avira team patrol participates in NATO operation "Sea Guardian"

Team patrol boat tomorrow Aviere of the Navy will depart from Taranto to join the NATO Naval Group and participate in the maritime operation Sea Guardian in the Aegean Sea, to support the Operation Eunavformed - Sophia led by the European Union, as established last 26 and 27 October in Brussels during the meeting of NATO Defense Ministers.

After being engaged in the device of the Safe Sea, ship Aviere underwent a training cycle at the Navy Training Center (Maricentadd), aimed at strengthening and increasing operational capabilities, preparatory to carrying out the assigned mission, and will leave the Mar Grande Naval Station after the greeting of the commander-in-chief of the Naval Squad, Admiral Donato Marzano team.

The NATO mission, announced at the Warsaw Summit last July 2016, is a new Maritime Security operation in the Mediterranean, directed by the NATO Maritime Component Command (MARCOM) based in Northwood, with the aim of improving European defense and collective security, through greater coordination between the activities of the new operation Sea Guardian and that up to now conducted with the operation Eunavfor Med - Sophia in the Mediterranean area, taking advantage of the peculiarities of each organization with a view to complementarity of action.

The ships of the Alliance countries carry out various maritime security tasks to ensure the surveillance of maritime spaces of interest (Maritime Situational Awareness) and the contrast to the terrorist threat, also carrying out training activities in favor of the security forces of the coastal countries (Maritime Security Capacity-Building).

If necessary, tasks of protecting freedom of navigation, maritime interdiction, combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and protection of sensitive infrastructures may also be carried out.
