The divers of the Diving Operations Group located at the SDAI (Demining Defense Antimezzi Insidiosi) nucleus in La Maddalena, 315 explosive devices found in Porto Palma (Caprera island) have recently conducted the search and neutralization.

The complex operations, conducted at a depth of 45 meters, made it possible to identify and recover 17 large-caliber, 76 medium-caliber and 93 small-caliber bullets, as well as 128 fuzes and 4 launching charges, all dating back to the last world war.

Once removed from the bottom, the bombs were brought to a few meters from the surface where they were made to shine through the application of a counter-charge of circumstance.

These artifacts, subject to strong corrosion, however, maintain the characteristics of the explosives they contain, and are even more dangerous.

For this reason, their destruction can only take place at sea, an activity that is carried out by exploiting particular measures that guarantee minimum environmental impact.

It is recommended that all those who come across artefacts, with shapes similar to an explosive device or parts of it, absolutely not touch them and immediately report their discovery to the local Harbor Master's Office or Carabinieri station, who will contact the Diving Operations Group by Comsubin.
