The NATO exercise "DYNAMIC MANTA 2017 (DYMA 17)" will take place off the Sicilian coast, from 13 to 24 March, with air-naval vehicles and crews from 10 Allied countries, gathered in the Central Mediterranean for anti-submarine combat training and to the fight against surface vehicles.

Submarines from France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the United States are under the control of NATO Submarine Command (COMSUBNATO) and will operate with 10 military ships of France, Greece, England, Italy, Spain, Turkey and the United States.

Italy, in addition to participating with the destroyer Luigi Durand De La Penne, the submarine Pietro Venuti, and a SH90 helicopter of the Italian Navy, will provide logistical support through the Maritime Command of Sicily, the Naval Base of Augusta and the Air Base of Sigonella.

The DYNAMIC MANTA 17 represents NATO's main exercise in the Mediterranean, dedicated to anti-submarine training with the aim of refining the skills and techniques of the submarines and ships of the Atlantic Alliance. Realistic scenarios and events with increasing difficulty will characterize the training themes to increase combat capacity in multinational operational contexts.

The ships being trained will be supported by 14 maritime patrol aircraft and helicopters from Canada, France, Germany, England, Italy, Norway, Spain, Turkey and the United States that will operate from the Sigonella base and from ships' ships.

The number of nations participating in this year's exercise is a demonstration of NATO's commitment to maritime safety, in particular, for capacity building in the submarine struggle.
