Cavour and Naval Aircraft train in the Mediterranean

The aircraft carrier Cavour, flagship of the Navy, has been engaged since 27 April in the Mediterranean Sea to carry out activities of Carrier Qualification with AV8B + vertical take-off aircraft in preparation for the exercise Open Sea 2017 which will take place from 7 to 18 May.

After a period of pause for the reconstruction of the flight deck, the Grottaglie group of aircraft on board - the so-called "wolves" - and the helicopters of the naval squad returned to full capacity from the aircraft carrier.

Ship Cavour it has a flight deck 234 meters long, equipped with 6 take-off and landing points for airplanes and helicopters, 2 aircraft parking areas and two 30-ton lifts that connect the flight deck with the hangar.

The AV-8B "Plus" aircraft, also called Harrier II, are carrying out an intense training cycle to maintain the maximum operational efficiency of the ship in its primary role as aircraft carriers, pride of the Navy which has the most modern and effective technologies - represents the state of the art in the current naval military landscape.

From 5 to 7 May, the ship will make a stop in the port of Civitavecchia for the next participation in the exercise Open Sea 2017, under the direction of the commander in chief of the naval squad, squad admiral Donato Marzano.
