The Secretary of the United States Navy, Carlos Del Toro, recently met with important political representatives of the governments of Wisconsin and Michigan, as well as the leaders of Fincantieri Marinette Marine. The main focus of the appointments was to try to ensure completion on time of the frigate USS Constellation (FFG 62), first unit of the class of the same name, whose contract was awarded to Fincantieri Marinette Marine in 2020.

A key point of the talks concerned recruitment and friction with workers at the Fincantieri Marinette Marine plant in Wisconsin, a factor that would have significantly affected the serious class schedule delays Constellation. It is currently expected that the first unit will be delivered in 2029 with three years behind the initial objectives.

The secretary expressly requested to speed up implementation times. He, however, praised the commitment of the governors of Wisconsin and Michigan and their respective administrations in mobilizing a highly qualified workforce capable of supporting the current and future needs of the US Navy.
