Leonardo and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) have signed a collaboration agreement to carry out a shared project within the framework of Military Mobility, an EU initiative aimed at increasing existing infrastructural and digital capabilities, to ensure the movement of military resources, to inside and outside Europe, even at short notice and on a large scale, ensuring safe, sustainable and resilient transport capabilities. Leonardo and RFI aim to identify the architecture and functionality of the integrated digital circulation management platform dedicated to Military Mobility, in ordinary and extraordinary situations for the transport of military material through dual-use infrastructures. Innovative solutions for accessing heterogeneous sources of data and for valorising them with automated processes will be an integral part of the platform.

As part of the collaboration, Leonardo will express its skills in terms of Global Security and Global Monitoring with the support of advanced AI techniques on multiple fronts: census and monitoring of dual-use infrastructures, modeling of infrastructures and articulated services, simulation and optimization of complex networks. Furthermore, in order to guarantee high standards of data protection, it is planned to use Leonardo's Global Security Operation Center (SOC) with proprietary Threat Intelligence solutions (to characterize and analyze potential cyber threats through collection and analysis from open sources) and of Live Endpoint Security (for the management and security of devices connected to the IT and OT network).

High computing performance in the management of significant amounts of data will be satisfied by the HPC (High Performance Computing) davinci-1, one of the most powerful super-computers in the aerospace, defense and security sector. The platform will also integrate advanced functions based on satellite services (including those of COSMO–SkyMed) and will use a secure and interoperable communication infrastructure with the different types of networks (TETRA, LTE, 4G/5G), to guarantee high levels of service and safety.

The agreement provides, among other things, for the use of specific know-how in the world of safety and railway traffic by integrating RFI's circulation management application components into the project with the other air and land mobility platforms necessary to generate a context of technological interoperability based on extremely robust security principles.
