Fincantieri and the Qatar Navy (QENF - Qatar Emiri Naval Forces) signed in Doha a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of engaging in a dialogue leading to new contracts for the provision of cutting-edge education and training courses for Qatar Navy personnel.
The signing took place between the general director of Naval Ships of Fincantieri, Dario Deste, and the major general Abdulla Hassan Al-Sulaiti commander of the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces, on the occasion of the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition & Conference (DIMDEX) 2024, which took place held last week in Qatar.
The Group and the Qatar Navy will continue the dialogue on contents and modalities so that Fincantieri can continue to provide and improve cutting-edge Italian training and training modules with the support of the Italian authorities and other partners in the defense sector.
The modules will be based on an innovative training and education approach and the constant growth of the Qatar Navy's maritime capabilities, while ensuring full integration and interoperability with Qatar's land and air military capabilities and allied foreign navies.
In June 2016 the Qatar Armed Forces and Fincantieri signed a contract for the construction of seven naval vessels and the provision of In-Service Support, Integrated Logistic Support, technical training for crews and basic maintainers and operational training for crews and courses language for each ship, as well as related food, accommodation and infrastructure.
Fincantieri has already delivered six ships and provided part of the activities indicated, including part of the training of Qatar Navy personnel (technical training for crews and basic maintainers and operational training for crews).
Following up on the training courses already effectively completed in Italy by Fincantieri, focused on the operation of the Italian Combat System on board ships and consistent with the training tools already provided, the Qatar Navy is interested in implementing education and training programs with the aim of maintaining the skills acquired internally with continuous updates.
