The Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) of Boeing successfully completed the first key verification with the US Air Force, validating the technical requirements of the program prior to the design and development phase of the upcoming US Intercontinental Ballistics System.

The examination established the guideline for the GBSD which will replace the intercontinental ballistic missile Minuteman III (ICBM) assuming the nuclear deterrence mission for future generations.

Boeing has completed the System Requirements Review about two months after receiving $ 349 million to complete the design of the GBSD system with a contract of Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction.

"The Air Force has accurately established the system design requirements in the early stages of the acquisition process"said Frank McCall, director of Boeing's strategic deterrence systems and GBSD program manager."Thanks to this linear guide, the Boeing team was able to focus on options that meet the requirements and provide the skills needed to discourage a constantly evolving threat".

"We focused on modularity and convenience to enable efficient management of the system from the government to the 2075 and beyond", added McCall.

The Boeing project addresses the replacement of the entire ICBM system, including new flight equipment, the command and control of weapon systems (WSC2) and the launch from the silos of the Minuteman existing.

Now that the requirements highway has been set, Boeing will conduct a series of cost / capacity studies, balancing economics and options to find a GBSD solution that is capable, flexible and affordable.

Boeing will present his Preliminary Design Review at the Air Force in the 2020.
