02/06/14

On the occasion of the 68 anniversary celebration of the proclamation of the republic, the deposition of a crown in honor of the fallen was held today at the Bari Overseas Shrine.

The traditional ceremony took place in Largo Giannella where representatives of the army lined up with the Pinerolo mechanized brigade, the navy with the harbor master's office, the air force, the carabinieri, the financial guard, the red cross, the state police , the penitentiary police, the state forestry corps, the fire brigade, the speleological mountain rescue, the urban police, the various fighting associations and the confaloni of the various municipalities of the province.

All the highest civil and military officials of the state attended and a warm citizenship made his presence felt strong.

On 2 June 1946, following the results of the "institutional referendum" called to choose between monarchy and republic, Italy became a republic.

The date became a national holiday, one of the symbols of the new state and, since 1948, the appointment is highlighted with a parade of units of the armed forces.
