Flight hospital: newborn transported from Cagliari to Rome

12/06/15

Yesterday a child of just one day suffering from a serious pathology and admitted to the Neonatology Department of the University Hospital of Monserrato (Ca) was transferred urgently to the 'Bambin Gesù' pediatric hospital in Rome.

The request for transport, which was necessary to guarantee immediate medical treatment to the little patient, sent by the hospital to the prefecture of Cagliari, reached the Situation Room of the Air Team Command which ordered the execution of the flight.

The aircraft, a Falcon 50 of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino (Rome) landed at the "Mario Mameli" airport in Elmas-Cagliari at midnight and immediately left for the capital.

The newborn, who was lodged in a special thermal cradle, accompanied by his father and assisted during the flight by the Policlinico medical staff, was later transported with an ambulance to the Roman hospital.

The aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino are used for state transport and for public utility missions, such as emergency medical transport for patients, traumatized persons and organs for transplants, as well as for interventions in favor of people in situations of risk.

This last activity, given the imminent danger of life of the transported people, imposes a level of readiness twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

The medical transport of sick, traumatized and patients who need organ transplants is a recurring use of the Falcon 50, in service at the 31st Wing of Ciampino since 1985.
