Night flight for a child's emergency medical transport

Race against the clock for a C-130J of the 46ª Pisa Air Brigade to transfer a four-month-old child from Bari to Rome for urgent medical treatment at the Bambin Gesù Hospital.

The Prefecture of Bari has informed of the need the presidency of the Council of Ministers that has requested emergency medical transport.

The Situation Room of the General Staff of the Italian Air Force immediately ordered the use of the C-130J of the 46 ^ Pisa Air Brigade.

The C-130J took off from Pisa on Friday evening just before midnight and after a first stop in Rome Ciampino arrived in Bari around the 2: 30 where he boarded both the ambulance with the little one and a car with the medical team following.

Around the 5: 00 the aircraft landed at Ciampino and the ambulance was able to continue towards the Bambin Gesù Hospital. The C-130J then returned to Pisa just before the 8.

Emergency medical transports such as this night are insured by the Air Force 24 hours a day for 365 days a year. With C-130J aircraft the 46 ^ Air Brigade, is the only institution able to transport those patients who, due to particularly serious medical conditions, must be boarded together with ambulances equipped with special equipment.
