Foreign aircraft stop in Brindisi

Last Thursday the Brindisi airport was committed to supporting the flight activity of some foreign military aircraft in transit to and from different areas of employment. The airport, thanks to its favorable geographical position and the particular configuration of its cross-country runways, which allow take-off and landing operations in all wind conditions, is a privileged stopover for this type of transfer flights.

The Department, despite the adverse weather conditions that were currently raging in the area, provided technical and logistical support, ensuring ground assistance, air traffic control and meteorological service, as well as coordinating fuel supply operations for airplanes in transit .

A BAE-146 aircraft belonging to the 32nd Squadron of the Royal Air Force (RAF) landed at the Brindisi airport coming from the Akrotiri air base (Greece) and, after reaching the parking area and refueling, is took off for Northolt Air Base (England).

Subsequently, two CF-188 Hormet aircraft, belonging to the 409th Tacnical Fighter Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), landed in Brindisi from Ahmed Al Jaber (Kuwait) and, after stopping for a technical stop and refueling of fuel, took off to reach the military airport of Spangdahlem (Germany).

Following this, a C-130J Hercules of the 435th Transport and Rescue Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), coming from Paphos (Cyprus), arrived in Brindisi, to leave the following day after the refueling operations.

The detachment, which reports to the Logistic Command, assures support to the "peacekeeping" operations of the United Nations Global Service Center (UNGSC) and "humanitarian" of the United Nations Humanitarian Intervention Base (UNHRD) The Department also provides 24 hours on 24, 365 days a year, assistance to air navigation services for civil aviation, passing aircraft belonging to NATO countries, providing the functions of Command of the Aeronautical Presidium through support logistic and administrative support to the Armed Forces of the Brindisi area.
