This morning a Salento man from 52 years, suffering from a serious aorta pathology, was transferred urgently from Brindisi to Bologna with an aircraft of the Italian Air Force equipped for the transport of stretches, to allow the immediate admission to the local Sant'Orsola Hospital.

Following the request of the Lecce prefecture, the Summit Situation Room of the Air Force Air Force Command, immediately ordered the activation of the flight performed by a Falcon 900 aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo "Carmelo Raiti" of Ciampino (Rome), promptly 24 hours on 24 for emergency medical flights.

The aircraft, taken off from the Roman airport "Giovan Battista Pastine", after reaching Brindisi airport, embarked the patient - thanks to a special lifting equipment (Ambulift) - made available by the airport company "Aeroporti di Puglia" of Brindisi, the spouse who accompanied him and a medical team from the "Vito Fazzi" hospital in Lecce who assisted him during the flight, then taking off for the Emilian airport from where he will be transferred to the local hospital to receive treatment of the case.

The Papola Casale di Brindisi airport is often used for these types of flights as it is strategically close to the major hospitals of southern Salento.

The aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino are used for state transport and for public utility missions, such as emergency medical transport of the sick, severely traumatized and transplant organs, as well as for interventions in favor of people in any case in risk situations. This last activity, given the imminent danger of life of the transported people, imposes a level of readiness, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.
