Djibouti Task Force Air: change at the top

On Tuesday, at the air base in Chabelley, a ceremony was held at the top of the Air Djibouti Task Force (TFA-G). Colonel Giampaolo Schiavo ceded the command to Colonel Elio Volpari.

During the more than four months since its establishment, the Task Force Air has carried out about 200 flight hours with the "Predator" remotely piloted aircraft.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Rear Admiral Guido Rando, commander of Combined Task Force 465, currently in command of the anti-piracy operation "Atalanta". Numerous national and international military authorities present at the event.

Rear Admiral Rando, in congratulating Colonel Schiavo for his work and welcoming Colonel Volpari, underlined the importance of the work carried out by the TFA staff which allowed the ready and full integration of the Predator system into the EUNAVFOR device. .

TFA Djibouti was recently formed and constitutes the fixed wing component in support of the naval forces deployed in the Horn of Africa on an anti-piracy mission. The remotely piloted "Predator" MQ-1C aircraft of the 32 ° Stormo di Amendola monitor the waters of the Gulf of Aden ensuring the safety of ships in transit, including the merchant ships of the World Food Program in charge of delivering humanitarian aid to Somalia.
