Flight schools: CAE Multi Crew changes name and becomes an air transport training school

It was held on the morning of Tuesday 12 December at the crew training centre Multi Crew of Pratica di Mare (RM), a particular ceremony which celebrated various milestones: the renaming of the center into an air transport training school, the achievement of 10.000 flight hours on the all-Italian P180 aircraft NEXT, and the delivery of 100 military pilot licenses.

The ceremony was attended by the chief of general staff of the air team Luca Goretti and the general commander of the schools, general of the air team Silvano Frigerio.

A day full of events therefore and a non-random date chosen to celebrate them: on 12 December, in fact, the flight school also celebrated its first 10 years of activity, i.e. training of military pilots for transport aircraft. 

The celebrations began with the traditional handing over of the coveted gift Towered eagle, distinctive symbol of military pilots, to 4 young officers of the course Uranus V. Francesco, Edoardo, Samuele and Mattia have "crowned" their dream by becoming, to all intents and purposes, military pilots, ready to be employed in their respective operational departments, at the service of the country.

Pilot Colonel Alessandro Iaia, commander of the school, after thanking the military and civil authorities and the guests present, addressed the four new military pilots with these words: “This goal is achieved only after passing a severe selection process, a period of in-depth study and a continuous series of in-flight exams, which ideally unites you with all your predecessors, and with those who have made and make flying their reason for living. . I assure you that this objective can only be achieved if animated by true passion, great determination, perseverance and willpower.". Commander Iaia then continued by recalling the title acquired as a European flight school - european defense airlift school – thanks to a project led by EDA – european defense agency – for the creation of a standardization and common training program for the training of transport pilots, signed by 9 European Union countries.

Following this, after 10 years of activity, the renaming of the was celebrated CAE Multi Crew in air transport training school (SATA), originating from a historic Air Force school that operated in the world of flight training and transport between the 40s and 50s of the last century. 

After the blessing and description of the new department coat of arms, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Force General Luca Goretti, took the floor and emphasized how today's event “It constitutes not only a milestone in the career of the young pilots deployed but also in the life of an organization of excellence whose 10 years of existence and the change of name to an air transport training school are celebrated”. Then addressing the newly qualified graduates, General Goretti continued by saying: “Today you have reached a milestone which is only the beginning of an experiential journey that will lead you to take on ever-increasing responsibilities in increasingly challenging areas, operating on highly technological systems that the country will entrust into your hands”.

La air transport training school, dependent on the school command of the AM/3rd air region based in Bari, provides advanced training for Air Force attendees destined for the lines combat service support. The school also trains pilots of the other armed forces and armed corps of the State, both Italian and foreign, according to the most modern international dictates of the "Multi Crew" concept for fixed-wing aircraft.

Description of the new department coat of arms:
It is a compendium of elements that refer both to the old school of air transport and air navigation training and to the coat of arms of CAE Multi Crew, Including:

– the feathered wing, symbol of flight in a broad sense; the gold-colored feathers instead emphasize the mission of the school, that is, the training of military pilots who at the end of training receive aTowered eagle golden;
– the end of the feathered wing transforms into an airplane wing, symbolizing an ideal transport aircraft that sails at high altitudes, where it is possible to acquire broad horizons and carries the tricolor with it, to represent the values ​​of Italy in around the world;
– the world is the vast space where the missions of transport aircraft take place, and the geographical grid represents the key element on which the ability of multi-crew crews to navigate across the planet is centered;
– the light blue sky, referring to flights carried out in daytime conditions, contrasts with the black which instead represents flight operations in the darkness of the night or in adverse weather conditions, but also firmness, tenacity, constancy and loyalty to the extreme sacrifice;
– the stars represent the southern cross, used in the past by sailors as an indication of the south celestial pole;
– the red dot in the center of Italy indicates the province of Rome, where the newborn is based air transport training school.
