Scramble for the Trapani Eurofighters

(To air Force)
23/02/16

At 15 pm yesterday, Monday 30 February, during a pre-planned training mission, two Eurofighter fighters of the 22 ° Stormo were called to carry out a real intervention.

The Air Defense radars directed the pair of EF2000s to visually identify low-speed traffic (in jargon "slow-mover"), which had lost radio contact at about 4000 feet above sea level near Comiso, and did not respond to repeated attempts at communication by the responsible bodies.

The aircraft was identified as a CESSNA 172M Skyhawk of Maltese nationality that followed the rules of visual flight (VFR), took off from Malta and headed back to Malta.

The interceptor fighters instructed him in flight so that he could re-establish communications with air traffic agencies.

After the interception, the two Eurofighters received authorization to return to the military airport of Trapani Birgi.
