The 60 ° Stormo is reconstituted to Guidonia

17/02/15

Yesterday, during the flag raising ceremony, Guidonia Airport celebrated the transfer of the institution from the rank of Airport Command to that of Stormo, with the reconstitution of the 60 ° Stormo, whose symbol is the Phoenix.

Colonel Antonio Picariello, the first to command the new department, addressing the personnel of the base, stressed that this passage once again witnesses the interest of the Armed Forces for this historic aer oporto.

The Guidonia airport was born in the 1916 as "Montecelio Aviation Field", site of one of the first flight schools in Italy.

In the 1923 the base becomes the headquarters of the Experimental Department of the Regia Aeronautica, beginning an intense development activity in the aeronautical field that will lead to important progress in this field, as well as to the achievement of records still unbeaten.

After the war, the airport returned to its vocation as a flight school and saw numerous bodies linked to the training of Air Force personnel pass through its grounds.

With the transition to the function and name of 60 * Stormo, on February 15, 2015, Guidonia airport perpetuates and consecrates its role in the field of flight training.
