The 27 September 2016, from the base of Ghedi (BS), home of the 6 ° Stormo of the Italian Air Force, the first two Tornado ECR (Electronic Combat Reconnaissance) of the newly-assigned 155 ° Gruppo "Pantere Nere". This is the first training mission taken off the Red Devils base with SEAD capability (Suppression of Enemy Air Defense).
Le Black Panthers are part of the staff of the 6 ° Stormo from the 14 last September, the day after the suppression of the 50 ° Stormo di San Damiano and the placement in a square position of the 156 ° Gruppo Volo.
The ETS role (Electronic Warfare Tactical Suppression) was hired by the 155 Group 24 1995 February. In February 1998 the transition to the new role was completed with the acquisition of the aircraft Tornado ECR version, specialized in the SEAD task.
In this new role, the 155 Group first participated in the "Deliberate Forge" operation in Bosnia from the 1 July 1988 and, subsequently, to the "Allied Force" operation in Kosovo from the 24 March to the 17 June 1999.
The ETS capacity offered by ours Tornado is currently considered essential in modern operational scenarios, as well as being one of the "flagship" of the entire NATO for the limited availability of partner countries in this precious and complex operational capability.
