The AM in support of relief efforts in the Maremma

16/10/14

Following the atmospheric events that caused a flood in the Maremma, causing two victims and forcing the local population to leave their homes, the air force was asked to contribute to the rescue operations.

For the search and rescue activities, coordinated by the single operations room set up in Grosseto to manage the resources provided by the various branches of the State, the Air Force has made available an HH139 helicopter of the 85 ° Combat Search and Rescue Center (CSAR) of Pratica di Mare.

The aircraft, in the night between Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 October, scoured the area affected by the flood, in search of missing people and people in need of relief.

In the same night, in addition, a helicopter of firefighters, carrying six people rescued, landed at the military airport of Grosseto, where the staff of the 4 ° Stormo activated to provide assistance to the aircraft and, above all, to people, providing basic medical care, blankets and food. The civilian relief workers then spent the night at the base facilities, given the impossibility of reaching their homes given the bad weather conditions expected.

For the Grosseto base is not new the first reception of civilians rescued from dramatic situations, just remember the logistical support provided during the rescue operations on the Costa Concordia in January 2012 and for the flood of Albinia (GR) in November 2012.
