AM to the rescue of the Ezadeen ship

02/01/15

The festivities did not interrupt the activities of the Italian Air Force which, at the first light of dawn this morning, concluded the support to the rescue operations of the ship Ezadeen, merchant ship flying the flag of Sierra Leone with hundreds of migrants to board, abandoned by the crew and stopped for a blackout at about 40 miles off Capo di Leuca.

The HH-139 of the 84th Research and Rescue Center of Gioia del Colle (Bari) - the same who intervened in the rescue of the Norman Atlantic ferry and two days ago to the cargo ship Blue Sky M - released several times on the boat in distress personnel of the Harbor Master's Office and the Coast Guard, with the task of taking over the control of the boat to make it safe.

The operation, given the prohibitive meteorological difficulties, was carried out by lowering the personnel with the winch and thanks to the use of teams of aero-rescuers specialized in this kind of interventions.

The Air Force ensures 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, the search and rescue service at national level, for its crews and, as in this case, for the community. Over 365 people have been rescued by the crews of the 7000 ° Stormo of the Italian Air Force over the course of its history.
