The "Douhet" flying in the skies of Salento

From Tuesday 8 July, the Brindisi airport detachment and the 61 ° flock of Galatina (LE), host nine students of the "Iris" course of the Douhet School in Florence, engaged in carrying out training activities on ultralight aircraft, in order to develop knowledge and experiences in the field of "Recreational Sports Flying / Motorized Flight" (VDS / VM).

This is the 2014 “Giovani Eagles” program, prepared by the Air Force Staff, in concert with the Aero Club of Italy. The activity, entirely voluntary, envisaged by the school training offer (POF), is reserved for 1st and 2nd year students and is aimed at the most complete aeronautical training enrichment. The young people will follow the flight course at the “Fondone” airfield, home of the Lecce “Vega Ulm” Aero Club. The practical activity will be integrated by the theoretical insights that will become necessary during the flight program scheduled which will end on Thursday 24 July.

Each student will carry out training on "Advanced" VDS / VM aircraft, through a cycle of lessons on the ground and in "double command" flight, with qualified instructors on "Tecnam P92" aircraft, performing 16 flight hours, divided into 32 30 missions about minutes During the flight activity the students will become familiar with the flight controls, learn about the T / B / T radio communications (land / board / land) that take place between the pilot and the Air entities Traffic Services - ATS (Air Traffic Services) and will experience the thrill and the unique feeling of hovering in the air, and then landing safely along the white avian surface, under the expert guidance of the instructors.
