KC-767A to support anti-ISIS coalition

29/10/14

As part of the Italian contribution to the coalition of countries committed against ISIS, a KC-767A aircraft of the 14 ° Air Force Wing has been used for several days for the in-flight refueling of aircraft engaged in air operations.

The refueling plane took off on Friday 17 October, at an air base in Kuwait and completed its second operational air supply mission today.

The in-flight refueling capacity of the KC-767A aircraft makes this structure, called "force multiplier" in technical jargon, a strategic factor for modern military operations as it allows to extend the effectiveness of the aerial instrument in terms of space and time.

The 14 ° Stormo is based at the military airport of Pratica di Mare (RM) and depends on the command of the support and special forces of Rome.

The department carries out support missions in the field of in-flight refueling with the KC-767A aircraft and advanced multi-engine training, radio-measurements with P180 Avanti aircraft, in compliance with the schedules and directives received from the air crew command. It also guarantees the availability and personal transport service in support of the civil protection department.

The 14 ° Stormo made its contribution by participating in Unified Protector operations in Libya, ISAF in Afghanistan, Leonte in Lebanon, Lorica in Cyprus and Breus in Malaysia.
