The Deputy Chief of Staff of the AM visits the TFA in Lithuania

Yesterday the aerial team general Paolo Magro, sub-chief of the Military Staff of the Italian Air Force, visited the Italian Task Force Air (TFA), present in Šiauliai (Lithuania) for the fulfillment of NATO's Baltic Air Policing (BAP) mission.

General Magro, welcomed by the commander of the TFA Colonel Vito Cracas, reviewed the personnel deployed and expressed his heartfelt thanks for the service that the military of the Air Force perform with utmost professionalism and without interruption in the Lithuanian operational theater.

The general said he was also proud of the excellent results obtained and recognized both by the national authorities and by the foreign and NATO authorities: "air defense and in particular Air Policing is an absolutely delicate activity that represents the first frontier of security you hold a high responsibility that you are assuring every day with extreme competence and dedication even in the Baltic countries ".

The sub-chief was then received by the commander of the Lithuanian Air Force, commander Audronis Navickas, and by the commander of the Šiauliai Air Base, col. Vidmantas Raklevicius, who illustrated the organizational and functional aspects of the Lithuanian defense and air fleet.

Finally, the visit continued at the "Quick Reaction Area" of the Norwegian Air Force where he was received by the detachment commander, lt. with the. Atle Braten, who illustrated the NATO Air Policing activity conducted by the Royal Norwegian Air Force in Lithuania in coordination with the Italian TFA. 

Since January 2015, XNUMX, the Italian fighters have guaranteed the integrity of NATO airspace by ensuring the air defense of the skies of Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, member countries of the Alliance that cannot perform this task with their own forces, giving life to what is in NATO in this case it is called Interim Air Policing (IAP). The Air Policing activity has been conducted since peacetime and consists in the continuous surveillance and identification of all violations to the integrity of NATO airspace which are faced by taking the appropriate actions to counter them, such as immediate take-off , in technical jargon "scramble".
