The event took place in the Hall of Heroes of Palazzo Aeronautica, in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Pasquale Preziosa, Air Force General, as well as numerous senior officers and representatives of the civil and military world, both Italian and foreign.
Bellini, chief crew of the Italian Tornado shot down by the Iraqi anti-aircraft in the night between the 17 and 18 January 1991 during the operation Locusta, handed over to the Air Force the jacket worn during the period of imprisonment. The object will be exhibited at the AM historical museum in Vigna di Valle.
"It is a great honor for me to be able to make a gift of this object" - said General Bellini - "an object that represents suffering, commitment and sacrifice not only mine, but of the entire air force."
General Preziosa returned the gesture of General Bellini giving him the original certificate of the red cross, which sanctioned the return of the officer to his country at the end of his imprisonment, in addition to the commemorative medal for the liberation of Kuwait, created at the time by the artist Luciano Zanelli and donated to the head of SMA.
