(To air Force)

It was March 16, 2004 when the first Eurofighter aircraft landed at Grosseto military airport. A date that marked the beginning of a new era with the entry into line of the Eurofighter aircraft which replaced the unforgettable F-104, a transition which was also possible thanks to the maintenance activity guaranteed daily by the 904th GEA (Efficiency Group Aircraft).

With the entry into line of the new aircraft, since 2005 the 4th wing has once again begun to guarantee the national airspace surveillance service and NATO (SSSA), thus starting an unstoppable ride that led to the achievement of 80 thousand flight hours in the year of the Centenary of the AM.

The result is certainly important, but the "now I fly" resource implies the operational services provided and the training quality achieved, in addition to the excellent maintenance work ensured by the department.

The 80.000 flight hours represent a milestone that rewards the incessant commitment and qualified professionalism of the men and women who, under the effigy of the prancing horse, honor the Air Force in Italy and in international (operational/exercise) redeployments, operating, on a daily basis, with passion, pride, dedication and a sense of duty.

The 4th fighter wing depends on the air squad command through the combat forces command. Ensure the air defense of the area of national interest, contributing to the control, since peacetime, of the relevant airspace and carry out air defense operations in the assigned areas, within the framework of participation in international crisis prevention and management operations. Specifically, the department is engaged, alternating with the 51st wing of Istrana (Treviso), in the alarm service, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, through the use of the Eurofighter aircraft. The 4th wing is also responsible for ensuring the operational conversion of the pilots of the Armed Forces to be used in the Eurofighter F-2000 line.
