On 9 November 2015 was awarded to the 3 ° Stormo of Villafranca a solemn collective commendation by the logistic commander of the Air Force, general of air team Gabriele Salvestroni, who personally handed the recognition in the hands of the commander of the 3 ° Stormo, Colonel Massimo Cicerone, Friday 13 November in the presence of all the staff.
The delivery of the parchment sanctioned the recognition of the excellence that the department is able to express in the area of projection logistics which makes it a "unique" both for the Air Force and, in general, for the armed forces. To make the event even more impressive was the scenario in which it took place, that is the monumental complex of the department which, evoking its glorious history through the simulacra of the exhibited aircraft, represents the fertile ground in which to cultivate future successes .
General Salvestroni turned to the women and men of the 3 ° Stormo "... the set of military values, self-sacrifice and valuable professional qualities demonstrated together with the outstanding performance of the 3 ° Stormo, one of the flagships of the logistic command ... setting it as a very clear example of leading department and absolute guarantee of success ... ". In his speech the logistic commander underlined the importance of the capacities put in place by the 3 ° Stormo, often in prohibitive environmental and climatic conditions, in joint and combined contexts. Therefore, references to real operations outside national borders (Afghanistan, Arab Emirates, Djibouti, Kuwait / Iraq and Lithuania), to those carried out on the national territory (Safe Roads, Locus Piceno, Castrum, ITA-JFAC), to the exercises at which participated (Grifone, Mart, Italian Blade) and which took place on the grounds of Villafranca as in the case of Toxic Trip.
For the occasion, also the gen. sa Basilio Cottone, former AM chief of staff and commander of the 28 ° Group at the 3 ^ Aerobrigata, and gen. sa Alberto Notari, president of Circle of the Third, the association that brings together all those who have served at the Villafranca base.
