Helicopter HH-139 takes off to rescue drifting ship

An HH-139 helicopter of the 82 ° SAR Center (Search and Rescue) of Trapani took off at the 16: 45 to search for and rescue a drifting boat with 35 migrants on board. The research will be concentrated in an area of ​​307 square miles in the sea north of Pantelleria.

The boat, which left Tunisia, is at the mercy of the currents, with serious danger both for the people on board, migrants who tried to reach the coasts of western Sicily, and for the safety of navigation in the area.

The request for intervention, received from the Maritime Rescue Sub Center of Palermo, is coordinated by the Air Operations Command of Poggio Renatico (FE).

The Air Force guarantees 24 hours on 24, 365 days a year, the search and rescue service at national level for its crews and, as in this case, the community.

The 82 ° SAR Center depends on the 15 ° Stormo SAR, which is based in Cervia (RA). More than 7000 are the people rescued by the crews of the 15 ° Stormo during its history.
