Take-off on "scramble" for the 4th Wing

(To air Force)
15/04/16

Yesterday, a civilian aircraft sailing in the airspace on the Tyrrhenian Sea triggered the "scramble" alarm following a failed radio link with the national airspace control bodies. The event activated the air defense system by launching the rapid take-off procedure for two fighters Euro Fighter of the 4th Wing of Grosseto.

At 11.00, the CAOC-TJ (Combined Air Operation Center of Torrejon) ordered the "scramble", that is the immediate take-off of fighter interceptors in alarm service on the national territory. The two Eurofighter fighters departing from Grosseto airport in just a few minutes, under the control of the Air Defense radar assured by the Air Force, carried out the interception procedure in contact with the National Government Authority (NGA).

The civilian aircraft, a Falcon 50, was intercepted after a few minutes. The business jet, which took off from Madrid and headed for Ciampino (Rm), subsequently responded to radio calls, and, once the route of the aircraft was identified and verified, was escorted to the skies of Rome by the two Euro Fighter, until the order to return to the Grosseto base was communicated.
