COA: Always ready to intervene

07/01/15

At Christmas as in San Silvestro, the Operations Room of the Air Operations Command (COA), the beating heart of the Poggio Renatico (FE) Air Force base, remained active and alert, around the clock, to ensure the safety of the Italian skies. In fact, Air Defense does not allow moments of pause or relaxation.

The information of the radar network is controlled and evaluated by the staff in service of the National Operating Center (ITA-AOC, Italian Air Operation Center) and the newly established ARS (Air control center, Recognized air picture production center and Sensor fusion post) in order to identify any suspicious aircraft and alert, if necessary, Eurofighter fighters always ready for take-off.

Air Defense but not only: the COA is ready at all times to make the search and rescue service (SAR) aircraft fly, as happened on Sunday 28 December, both for the rescue of passengers on the Norman Atlantic ferry and for the research of sailors lost at sea following the collision between two merchant ships off the coast of Ravenna. Not even the activity of planning and coordinating the so-called "operational" Air Transport, including the one to and from the Theaters Outside the national borders, where the Italian soldiers are still engaged in crisis areas for their stabilization and reconstruction, did not stop. .
