Centenary of the Air Force: after 100 years the Aquila courses return to Livorno

It was November 5, 1923 when the Royal Air Force Academy was founded, just a few months after the birth of the Royal Air Force. It found hospitality right at the Naval Academy of Livorno, waiting to move to the autonomous headquarters of the Bourbon Royal Palace of Vanvitelli in Caserta, inaugurated on 10 December 1926. At the Naval Academy of Livorno, the students of the first course took their first steps founder of the generations of the regular courses of the Air Force Academy, the Eagle Course.

Like those students almost a century ago, on 28 October men and women of the subsequent generations of the Aquila III, Aquila IV, Aquila V and Aquila VI courses were able to walk the same corridors, visit the same premises, breathe in the highly evocative and evocative atmosphere of those beginnings.

The memory of the young black and white cadets has given new light on the past and opportunities for all the rallyists to reflect on the importance of the connection with their historical roots, on the key values ​​of military, moral and professional training of yesterday and today, giving strength to the continuity and the bond that unites the different generations, making the spirit of cohesion stronger.

On 29 October, the rally then involved the 46th air brigade of Pisa. The city of Pisa gave the rallygoers the opportunity to visit its main cultural attractions; the 46th brigade allowed all the fallen soldiers to experience a moment of recollection Aquila, through the laying of a wreath at the monument dedicated to the fallen of "Lyra 41". A special thought was addressed to pilot captain Gianluca Minichino and pilot captain Salvatore Bidello, both belonging to the Aquila V course, who lost their lives on 23 November 2009 during a training mission on the C-130 "Lyra 41" aircraft.
