Command change to the Experimental Flight Department

Last Tuesday, at the military airport 'M. De Bernardi 'of Pratica di Mare (RM), in the presence of gen. by Fabio Molteni, commander of the Experimental Flight Center (CSV), of civil and military authorities, took place the ceremony of change of the commander of Experimental Flight Unit (RSV), chaired by the aerial team general Gabriele Salvestroni, Logistic commander.

After just over two years, Colonel Gianluca Ercolani left the command of the RSV to Colonel Alessandro De Lorenzo, from the General Staff of the Air Force (SMA).

Colonel Ercolani, in his farewell speech, wanted to thank all the staff of the "Experimental", whose competence has allowed the achievement of prestigious objectives of which recent acknowledgments of appreciation were received. He then pointed out that the selection, training and motivation are the right ingredients to aim towards ever more ambitious horizons and that, in any case, the RSV is fully up to reaching, thanks to the dedication and passion for the job that have always distinguished it.

The incoming commander, Colonel De Lorenzo thanked the superior authorities for the trust he has been given and underlined how the RSV is a unique and fundamental reality not only in the Armed Forces but in the entire Defense sector, as evidenced very well by the recent results obtained in the various testing activities in the interforce and international field. He therefore expressed the desire to carry out his command with enthusiasm, humility and determination in order to further enhance the role and image of the RSV.

Colonel Alessandro De Lorenzo, of the 'Leone IV' course, as military pilot was assigned to the 9th Group of the 4th Wing of Grosseto, where he commanded the 96th Flying Squadron. He obtained the qualification of "Combat Ready" on F104 ASA aircraft in the roles of all-weather interceptor fighter. Assigned to Experimental Flight Department in the 1998, he was sent to the US Navy base of Patuxent River for the frequency of the experimental pilot test course, achieving the relevant qualification in 2000. Returning to the Department, he was assigned to the "conventional aircraft" section where he carried out experimentation activities mainly on the "C-130J and C-27J" aircraft KC767-A He commanded the 311 Flight Group of the RSV from August 2009 to September 2010 and subsequently it was assigned to the 4 "Logistics" Department of the SMA From November 2011 to May 2012 commanded the Joint Air Task Force in operating theater in Afghanistan at Herat Airport. Returning to the 4 Department of the SMA, he took command of the 2 ° Office from June 2014 to September 2015.
