Brindisi: support for the Royal Air Force

Last Friday, the Brindisi branch provided the necessary technical and logistic support service to an Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft of the Royal Air Force (RAF), in transit from Brindisi.

The detachment provided ground assistance, air and weather navigation services, as well as coordination of fuel refueling operations.

During an intense training activity, the aircraft, belonging to the 10th Squadron of the RAF of Brize Norton (UK), landed at the Brindisi airport where it refueled and then took off for Bordeaux (France).

It is not the first time that the Salento base supports this type of activity. The favorable geographic position as well as the excellent conformation of the Brindisi airport, equipped with two crossways, allow in fact, takeoffs and landings with any wind conditions, making this airport a reference for the activity of airplanes coming and directed towards the different areas of use.

The department, employed by the logistic command, assures support to the peacekeeping operations of the United Nations Global Service Center (UNGSC) and "humanitarian" of the United Nations Humanitarian Intervention base (UNHRD) .

The detachment also provides 24 hours on 24, 365 days per year, assistance to civil aviation air navigation services, passing aircraft belonging to NATO countries, providing the command functions of the aeronautical garrison through logistical support and administrative to the armed forces of the Brindisi area.
