13/04/15

On Thursday 9 April, at the end of a long and demanding training cycle, nine students of the "Leone V" course of the Aeronautical Academy and two of the 123 ° AUPC (Companion Pilot Officer Students) have pinned the scope on their uniform " towered eagle ”, symbol and emblem of the military pilot.

This time, however, the event, which traditionally seals the training activities of the 61 ° Stormo, was not kept inside a hangar of the military airport "F. Cesari ", but took place in Piazza San Pietro in Galatina (Lecce), in front of thousands of spectators and family members of the patents.

The ceremony, presided over by General Franco Girardi, commander of the Military Aeronautical Schools, saw the participation of numerous civil, religious and military authorities of the territory as well as the airport staff deployed for the occasion.

Next, the fanfare of the 3 ^ Air Region, present on site to perform the music required by the military ceremony, held a concert inside the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria.

For Colonel Paolo Tarantino, commander of the 61 ° Stormo and of the Galatina airport, "the delivery of the towered eagle is a moment that, besides representing a fundamental step in the professional training of the military pilot, rewards the efforts supported by the patented young people and by all the personnel of the Department. Being able to perform the ceremony in the splendid setting of Piazza San Pietro in Galatina confers an important added value to the event and consolidates the union with the population and the Salento area, which has always hosted and supports a Base with unique capacities in the European and international panorama " .
