1 ° Atmospheric Physics and Meteorology course

10/03/15

On Monday 2 March, at the Airspace Control Training Department (RACSA) of Pratica di Mare (Rome), the 1 ° course on Atmospheric Physics and Meteorology started for 2 officers of the Normal Role of the Corps of Aeronautical Engineering and 9 students of the degree course in Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

The aim of the course is to provide the users with theoretical and practical knowledge for future employment in the field of Meteorology and, in particular for military personnel, the possibility of being employed in the Meteorological Services of the Air Force both in the operating sector, both in the development of innovative methodologies and applications.

The course also provides the theoretical and practical notions to operate as a Weather Forecaster at an airport Meteorological Office, to solve flight assistance problems related to the meteorological phenomenon and, at the same time, provide the technical knowledge for a rapid insertion into the operational activities of National Meteorology Centers with the subsequent inclusion in the field of development and implementation of advanced weather forecasting systems.

The training activity was structured on two phases: the first at the Department of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences of the University of Tor Vergata with lectures and exams by professors of the University and of the Armed Forces; the second at the Airspace Control Training Department for the theoretical lessons, the National Center for Aeronautical Meteorology and Climatology and the Airport Meteorological Office of the Pratica di Mare Airport Command for “On the Job Training” activities.

At the end of the course all those attending will receive the qualification of "Meteorologist", provided by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

The RACSA, dependent on the 9 ^ Air Brigade "Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance - Electronic Warfare" (ISTAR - EW), is the training organization of the Italian Air Force which has the task of training the Official and Petty Officer personnel of all the Armed Forces responsible for Air Traffic Control, Air Defense and Meteorology. Furthermore, the Department carries out the assessment of the technical proficiency in English technical "Technical Proficiency Test" (TPT) necessary to the TA / DA controllers for the performance of the Airspace management functions.
