Afghanistan: Save the Children, a fourth staff member killed during yesterday's attack in Jalalabad

25/01/18

We are heartbroken this morning to discover that another member of our team was killed in yesterday's attack on our office in Jalalabad. The identity of our colleague, a young man in his twenties, was confirmed today during a second and thorough survey of the building.

We learn this while our staff is already struggling to accept the news of the killing of three other colleagues yesterday during the same attack.

Yesterday's attack is an act of senseless and evil violence, which devastated the families of those who lost their loved ones, as well as the colleagues within our Organization. Events like this have a direct impact on the children and communities we protect and help with our work and yesterday, unfortunately, our interventions in the country have been suspended. We are determined to resume operations as soon as possible and our staff has already taken the first steps to this end, performing critical assessments on the security conditions in the areas in which we work.
