Last week, a delegation from the veterinary logistic department of the Army, composed of the department head, Colonel Giovanni Rucco, and the veterinary office chief, Colonel Luca Virgilio, went to the US Army Public Health Command Europe (PHCE), in Landstuhl (Germany), in the context of bilateral collaboration relations between the Italian and US armies, in order to define possible fields of cooperation in the veterinary support sector.

During the activity the delegation visited the veterinary medical center Europe in Kaiserslautern, a modern veterinary hospital for the treatment of military dogs from various theaters operating and stationed in the European area and the PHCE diagnostic laboratory, a cutting-edge laboratory for chemical and microbiological analysis of food, water and the environment.

At the end of the visit, the Italian and US representatives gathered to proceed with the drafting of a draft framework agreement that will allow, once approved, to plan and coordinate future interactions and exchanges between the two armies in the fields of clinical and veterinary surgery for the support of military quadrupeds, in sharing information and experiences in the field of food safety of animal origin and in joint training activities.

The PHCE is included in the US Army Regional Health Command Europe, with the task of providing veterinary and public health support to US military forces stationed in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In Italy it manages the activities of competence in the bases of Vicenza, Aviano, Napoli and Sigonella.
