Peace lessons at the Application school

The 9 orientation course for the stabilization and reconstruction of territories compromised by the outcomes of an armed conflict started at the Army Application School.

Organized by the Post-Conflict Operations Study Center, an Army facility specializing in the analysis and teaching of safety-related disciplines, the 9 ^ edition of the course is aimed at thirty civil servants, senior officers of the Armed Forces and students university students interested in acquiring the skills to operate in areas destabilized by armed clashes and in which the international community has the mandate to restore peace and security.

"Synergy with the academic, diplomatic and university world is the principle behind this new educational proposal"- says General Claudio Berto, commander of the Application School -"Our goal is to contribute to the training of civilian and military leaders capable of using common languages ​​and tools, for the benefit of peace and security in Italy and in the world.".

Significant the presence of foreign students and observers from Cameroon, Georgia, Macedonia (FYROM), Oman and Tunisia as proof of the interest aroused by the Italian approach to the delicate issue of "post-conflict" and the high quality of the courses taught in Turin , in English, by military teachers, university professors and United Nations specialists.

Among the topics addressed in the two weeks of study: the role of the UN, Europe and non-governmental agencies, assistance to local security forces, international humanitarian law, the problem of "child soldiers", the impact of ethnic, religious and cultural differences in the different contexts in which it is necessary to restore the foundations of a society torn by conflict.
