Yesterday afternoon, Army Chief of Staff, Army Corps General Danilo Errico, inaugurated the Hall of Memory in the presence of the relatives of the fallen who arrived in Rome to take part in the celebration of the "Day of remembrance of the fallen military and civilians in international missions for peace".

The initiative, which saw the participation of a representative of the General Staff of the Army, including the department / department heads, followed the commemoration of this morning which saw the Minister of Defense, Roberta Pinotti, pay tribute to the fallen 'Altare della Patria, in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Defense, Army Corps General Claudio Graziano, the Secretary General of Defense, Air Force General Carlo Magrassi, of the Armed Forces and of the Guardia di Finanza. The celebration then continued with Holy Mass officiated by the military ordinary for Italy in the Basilica of St. Mary in Aracoeli, if Msgr. Santo Marcianò.

General Errico, in the address of greeting to the family members present, wanted to extend the words of the president emeritus of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, pronounced in a speech to remember the figures of the judges Falcone and Borsellino, "... to all those Italians, military and civilians who, during peace missions, sacrificed their lives for noble ideals, thus giving hope to millions of people who have lived in the tragedy of war and poverty".

The Chief of Staff of the Army then highlighted that "the men we remember today ..... represent both an indispensable model for the new generations of Italians as well as a guide that is always alive and present both for their fellow soldiers and for the young who aspire to wear the uniform of the Army ”. This is the meaning of Hall of Memory, strongly advocated by General Errico, as a place where he can keep alive the memory and preserve the precious legacy that the fallen have left to the Armed Forces and the Country.

The Hall, a work designed by the artist Roberto Pietrosanti, is equipped with a screen that is activated automatically at the entrance of a guest, projecting all the fallen of the Army in sequence. Another interactive screen, located on the right, allows the visitor to select further details.
