Army intervention bomb squad for second world war bomb in Brescia

On Sunday morning, a group of bomb squads from the Army defused an aircraft bomb, dating back to the Second World War, in the city center of Brescia.

The bomb, an airplane bomb of 500 pounds (equal to 227 kg) of US manufacture containing 127 kg. of explosives, had been found on January 26th during the excavation for sampling the soil inside the "Leonardo Finmeccanica" factory in the municipality of Brescia.

The operations of securing the territory, coordinated by the prefecture of Brescia in competition with the North Operative Forces Command of Padua, started at 07.00 am with the evacuation of about 1000 residents within 550 meters. from the place where the bomb was found. First, the Army specialists proceeded with the "despoiling" of the bomb and then proceeded to transfer the bomb to the Calcinato quarry (BS) for blasting. The operations ended around 14.45pm.

The intervention was conducted by specialists of the 10th regimental genius of the 132nd armored brigade Ram, which is one of the 12 units of the weapon of genius that the Army uses for the reclamation of unexploded remnants of war. In 2016 there were 146 interventions by the Cremonese regiment, of which 24 on high-explosive aircraft bombs. The last of these, from 600 kg, in Pizzighettone (CR) last spring. Over the past 10 years, more than 30000 interventions have been made.
