The memory of the Battle of the Bridges

(To Army Majority State)
10/04/24

On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Nassiriya battle (6 April 2004), which went down in history as the "Battle of the Bridges", the 132nd "Ariete" armored brigade remembered the event with the laying of a laurel wreath to the fallen and a conference which took place at the "Mittica" barracks in Pordenone, attended by the local civil and military authorities, including the prefect of Pordenone, Natalino Manno, the police commissioner Giuseppe Solimene and the chief of staff of the command North Operating Forces, gen.d. Amadio freed.

The conference, introduced by the commander of the "Ariete" brigade, gen.b. Domenico Leotta, saw the speeches of three speakers who were protagonists of the events in Iraq at the time, Gen. d. (res.) Luigi Scollo, the general. b. Cosimo Garau and Gen. b. (aus.) Massimo Raccampo, moderated by Professor Guglielmo Cevolin, professor at the University of Udine.

The activity, as well as remembering events in their twenty-year history that have highlighted the preparation and professionalism of the Army soldiers involved in the mission in Iraq, was an opportunity for the younger people who were able to relate and exchange ideas with the speakers.

The operational and logistical aspects as well as the procedures implemented in the 'Battle of the Bridges' become a "school" for the younger commanders, in a continuous training process, including experiential, which aims to build conscious leadership.

The meeting, retracing what happened through the voice of the protagonists, made it possible to pay homage to those who participated, as well as to demonstrate how training is the necessary condition for the protection and safeguarding of personnel in all conditions of use.
