The "Innovation of Health Systems" conference dedicated to the main innovations in the European health and scientific field was held today at the European Parliament in Brussels.

The event saw the participation of the Health and Veterinary Command that presented the research project called "Canine olfactory detection in the urine of patients with prostate cancer" conducted in collaboration between the Humanitas Institute of Rozzano (MI) and the Center Veterinary Military of Grosseto (CEMIVET), under the patronage of the General Staff of Defense.

The presentation was preceded by the introduction of the Commander of Health and Veterinary of the Logistic Command of the Army, Major General Mario Alberto Germani, and by Dr. Alessandro Liguori, CEO of Humanitas.

The work continued with the scientific reports of the authors of the study - Dr. Gianluigi Taverna of Humanitas and Lieutenant Colonel Lorenzo Tidu of CEMIVET - to illustrate the extraordinary results of the research, which show how well-trained dogs are able to recognize the smell of prostate cancer through olfactory examination of urine samples with a reliability of 98% of cases.

The aforementioned study involved two female German shepherd, 7 years, under the Italian Army, already trained to detect and report explosive substances: Liu and Zoe.
