Army in action for the restoration of the Tre Occhi bridge road (Amatrice)

(To Army Majority State)
28/08/16

This morning, work began on the construction of the by-pass of the bridge in the Tre Occhi area, along the 260 state road, on the outskirts of Amatrice, the area most affected by the earthquake last Wednesday. The assets of the 6 ° Regiment Genio Pionieri of Rome, with the collaboration of the technicians of the Civil Protection of Friuli Venezia Giulia, are working downstream of the bridge to create a ford with box-like structures with a track of around 6 meters, which will allow to circumvent the bridge now irreparably damaged.

This is the quickest solution to allow the reopening of a road section considered to be of strategic importance as it would allow additional resources and materials to rescue the population from Amatrice from the south.

At present, there are about 800 men and women of the Army who are operating in the earthquake zones and more than 180 the means (most of which come from the Genio units). In particular, in the localities of Rieti, Amatrice and Accumuli are 124 transport vehicles and special employees: not only buses and tactical vehicles but also lighting towers, generating sets, wheeled backhoe loaders, loaders, tracked excavators, tankers, trailers and fire-fighting vehicles.
