Yesterday morning, the bomb technicians of the genius railway manager of Castel Maggiore (BO) defused a war device of the second world war, found on the site between Via Larga and Via dell'Industria, allowing the evacuated people to return to their homes of about 3400, for the occasion, within a radius of 500 meters from the place of the discovery.

The bomb, an AN-M30GP USA airplane bomb weighing 115 pounds (approximately 52 kg) of American manufacture, was found in very poor storage conditions, but still active and functioning. The bomb technicians proceeded with the very delicate operation of removing the fuses on site to then transport the device, for the final operations of destruction, in a suitable and safe area, at the "Sim Morazzo" quarry, also in the municipality of Bologna.

The use of blasters was ordered by Northern Operation Force Command of Padua, body responsible for coordinating the Armed Force structures in this type of intervention in the central-northern area of the peninsula.

The experience and professionalism of the Castel Maggiore specialists is demonstrated by the over 300 interventions carried out over the last year, for a total of over 13000 destroyed bombs, in its area of competence (Marche Region, provinces of Bologna, Prato, Florence and Arezzo).
