Black Basque to the VFI cavalry

It ended at the Zappalà barracks in Lecce, headquarters of the command Cavalry School, with the delivery ceremony of the "Black Beret", the 2nd specialization course of the volunteers on initial standstill (VFI), assigned to the Cavalry Corps to achieve their respective specializations tank driver e line cavalry.

In the presence of Brigadier General Claudio Dei, commander of the Institute and representatives of the School's departments, a wreath was laid for the fallen and the biography of the Gold Medal for Military Valor lancer Alfredo Notte, heroic figure, was read after which the course is named.

All the volunteer participants lined up in the multipurpose hall “F. Baracca", they wore the black beret decorated for speciality, officially becoming "Cavalry Soldiers", as proclaimed by the commander's formula, who symbolically, with the delivery of the black beret to three trainees, "baptized" the newly specialized Cavalry respectively for specializations achieved: operator for armored personnel carriers – “Crewman”, “Scout” and “Heavy Scout”.

The 154 volunteers, including 37 women, attended specialty courses for 9 weeks divided into the various components of the Cavalry Army. The new professional model allows young soldiers to acquire the specialist skills necessary for the operational units to which they are assigned. A new training process, which saw the Institute engaged in the adaptation and revision of training and functional training to the new needs of the Army with the specialization of Volunteers in Initial Service (VFI).

With the acquisition of the specialty, the VFI, new knights, will join the cavalry and tank regiments for operational use and consolidate, alongside the more experienced armored and tank crews, what they have learned at the Cavalry School, the hotbed of the training of yesterday's knights, increasingly projected towards the future, ready to be called upon to face the challenges that see the Army on the front line.​
