The bomb technicians of the 2 ° regiment genius alpine troops of Trento of the Army have neutralized two 1000 pound bombs, found during the work of a construction site in the industrial area of the city, successfully ending the operation Brixina. It was a complex and delicate operation, considering the close position of the two devices.
The operation began in the morning, at 0600, with the evacuation of citizenship from the areas at risk and the closure of cross-border traffic. Following the 08: 00, the phases of approach to the devices that, once deprived of the treacherous triggers, were transported safely to a suitable site to be definitively destroyed. About 1000 the citizens evacuated, residents in the red zone (including a radius of 1100 meters from the site of discovery), while around 1600 were the citizens bound to stay sheltered in their homes, in the yellow zone (between the 1100 and the 2000 meters ).
The Bolzano Government Commissioner has harmonized, within the framework of the constitution mixed operations center, the activities of the police and all the interested entities with the supervision of the command for operational forces north of the Army of Padua. At the municipal reception center for the evacuated population, the regimental information point was set up, with an illustration of the "dual value" of the Army engineering departments about rescue activities conducted on the occasion of public disasters, emergencies and of complex operations for the neutralization of remnants of war.
