The "Virgo Fidelis" celebrated on board the Carabiniere ship

Last Thursday, if Monsignor Luigi Ernesto Palletti, bishop of the diocese of La Spezia, Sarzana and Brugnato, celebrated a Holy Mass on the occasion of the anniversary of the patroness of the Carabinieri, the Virgo Fidelis aboard the frigate Carabiniere, moored in the port of La Spezia.

The celebration was attended, together with all the civil and military authorities of the province, by the division admiral Roberto Camerini, North Maritime Commander, the Brigadier General Paolo Carra, commander of the Liguria Carabinieri Legion, the deputy prefect vicar, Dr. Maria De Bartolomeis, and the deputy mayor, arch. Cristiano Ruggia.

The ceremony, held in the unit hangar, concluded with speeches by the ship's captain Carabiniere, frigate captain Francesco Pagnotta, and of the provincial commander of the police of La Spezia, Colonel Gianluca Valerio.

A bond, that between ship Carabiniere and the weapon, which the commander of the Unit reiterated in his speech and which begins with the launch of the ship, which took place on 29 March 2014 on the bicentenary of the foundation of the weapon. "The godmother of the ship - continues the commander - she is the granddaughter of the gold medal for military valor Deputy Brigadier Salvo D'Acquisto, who gave her young life to save 22 unarmed and innocent citizens. In the officers' quarters of this ship we jealously and proudly guard its bandolier and its oil lamp".

Colonel Valerio, on the other hand, focused on the oath of being "faithful over the centuries" that is "today a commitment to consistency with the ethical principles of solidarity, humility and balance in an era of immediacy, of cynicism and individualism ".
