The Steadfast Jupiter 2023 is underway

​The Italian Maritime Forces Command (COMITMARFOR) kicks off the CAX/CPX (Computer Assisted Exercise/Command Post Exercise) phase of the exercise Steadfast Jupiter 2023 aboard the aircraft carrier cruiser Giuseppe and Garibaldi, moored in the Naval Station of Taranto.

This phase represents, through virtual simulations, a valid test to verify the reactivity of NATO command posts in a modern war scenario.

La Steadfast Jupiter 2023 it is, therefore, an excellent opportunity that allows not only to verify combat capabilities but also to strengthen NATO's command and control skills at various levels of intensity. Coordination capabilities and skills that are verified in multiple threat and highly demanding scenarios through joint operations with simulated land, air, naval and amphibious forces pursuant to the principle of collective defense enshrined in art. 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

In this scenario, the ITMARFOR command guarantees high strategic-tactical readiness of NAT​O and is mainly made up of personnel from the second naval division of the Italian Navy, the largest in the Italian fleet, led by division admiral Giacinto Sciandra.

The commander and his multinational staff, made up of around 200 soldiers from 12 different countries of the Alliance (America, Spain, Poland, Greece, Turkey, France, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Italy and Finland which recently became member of the Alliance), will act in the capacity of maritime component command and during the exercise they will play the role of leading the Naval Forces in the Baltic Region under the senior direction of the joint task force commander of Brunssum.

The exercise is part of the certification process for the Italian command of the NATO Reaction Force (NRF) scheduled for 2024.​​​​​
