Celebrations for the 300th session of the naval command school have begun in Augusta

On 29 November, at the fourth naval division of Augusta, in the presence of the commander in chief of the naval team, team admiral Aurelio De Carolis, and of civil and military authorities, including the prefect of Syracuse, his excellence doctor Raffaella Moscarella l The Archbishop of Syracuse, His Most Reverend Excellency Monsignor Francesco Lomanto, the Sicily and Calabria interregional commander of the Carabinieri, Army Corps General Giovanni Truglio and the Sicily maritime commander, Division Admiral Andrea Cottini, the celebrations began in occasion of the 300th session of naval command school.

The start of the celebrations coincided with the inauguration of the new school headquarters, set up in the Visintini building on the Tullio Marcon dock. Godmother of the cutting of the tricolor ribbon was the vice-mayor of Augusta, Dr. Tania Patania, who enthusiastically accepted the invitation to inaugurate the new school headquarters as an important gesture that renews and strengthens the historic bond between the Navy and the city of Augusta.

The "round table", which told the history of the command school and outlined its current organization and future projects, also directly involved the attendees of the 300th session, who exposed the point of view of the naval officer who faces the first major milestone of the training course which, from entry into the Naval Academy, will lead him to become the commander of a Navy ship. The series of conferences received applause from the guests who showed keen interest in the contents exposed.

Before giving the floor to the commander in chief of the naval team for the closing of the "round table", Admiral Tarabotto said during his speech: “The School represents an excellence of our Armed Forces and its mission since 1926 continues to have its center of gravity in providing future Navy commanders with all the skills necessary to safely conduct any naval unit but, at the same time, continues to evolve through the use of new technologies to support teaching, such as simulators and drones, offering itself as a reference point for training in the art of command not only within the Armed Forces".

At the end of the round table, Admiral De Carolis said in his speech: “Augusta is important because it is a central element of the naval command school which has found its ideal home here over the years. This is the standard we are convinced of and the infrastructure we are developing, as well as the type of ships found here, are the optimal ones to carry out this type of activity. Navy commanders are trained here in Augusta."

The subsequent ribbon cutting for the inauguration of the new school headquarters, preceded by the blessing of the premises by Monsignor Lomanto, was welcomed by warm applause which repaid the commitment expressed by the women and men of the fourth naval division, who with their work made the event possible and ideally traced a new starting line for the now almost centenary naval command school.
