The Undersecretary of State for Defense Angelo Tofalo yesterday visited the NATO Rapid Reaction Command in Solbiate Olona (NRDC-ITA) where he met the Italian military and civilian personnel of the base and the representatives of the 400 foreign soldiers from 18 nations operating in this structure.

"I have been able to deepen the ways in which the Command operates and the main tasks at national and NATO level", Undersecretary Tofalo said that among the main topics on the agenda he spoke of military mobility in the context of the crossing of borders by military forces.
He then adds, "This military reality of excellence confirms Italy as one of the main actors in the Atlantic Organization and expresses a very high potential for skills and competences".
In fact, the multinational environment represents the key factor that allows NRDC-ITA to operate successfully and be available for interventions in crisis areas based on the provisions of the North Atlantic Council (NAC-North Atlantic Council).

During the visit, Tofalo visited the FATS shooting simulator, which allows personnel to be trained according to different operational scenarios without using ammunition. This guarantees a significant economic saving and a significant reduction in pollution. Another highlight of the base is the replication of a Forward Command Post, a command and control structure to practice the conduct of operations.
This Command was established in the 2001, when NATO decided to equip the Alliance with deployable, mobile and versatile multinational forces. Thus the Italian Ministry of Defense established the NATO Rapid Deployable Body - Italy. In the 2015 NRDC-ITA has been validated as a Joint HQ, the presence of the Navy and Air Force personnel and the related coordination cells guarantee the joint capacity of NRDC-ITA. The Headquarters is able to plan and execute high-intensity military operations and crisis response operations, cooperating with a large number of non-military actors who fully implement the concept of NATO's global approach.
