“Yesterday was an important day for India and Italy” stated the Undersecretary of State for Defense Matteo Perego of Cremnago in his greeting address to the Indian government delegation, “with the signing of the Cooperation Agreement between Minister Singh and Minister Crosetto. A collaboration governed by principles of equality, reciprocity, interest and mutual respect."

“A renewal of the Defense Agreement” continues the undersecretary "which constitutes a clear signal of the good relations between the respective ministries, two friendly and cooperating states also in highly sensitive international activities, especially in this historical moment, such as the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon".

After the greeting address, the SSSD and the Indian delegation led by Defense Minister Singh went to Montone (PG) to pay honor to the war memorial monument in the Upper Tiber Valley, dedicated to all the men who lost their life for liberation, in particular, to the sacrifice of the Indian soldier Yeshwant Ghadge of the English army who fell in the Montone countryside in a heroic gesture in July 1944.

“Omnes sub eodem sole – we all live under the same sun, quotes the motto on the sundial next to the memorial” concludes Perego leaving the place of the ceremony “we remember the sacrifice of the Indian soldier for freedom and we remember the sacrifices made by all the fallen during the First World War, all men who lived under the same sun but now no longer see it shine, may it be a warning to the new generations for a future without war and without deprivation of freedoms".
